For the Norwegian air power journal Luftled we wrote an article discussing how Finland and Sweden joining NATO will significantly strengthen the alliance’s airpower, in particular on the northern flank.

It was a great privilege to get the opportunity to write it together with colonel (ret.) Per Erik Solli of the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs and brigadier general Anders Persson, deputy vice-chancellor at the Swedish Defence University, who both are extremely knowledgeable when it comes to the Norwegian and Swedish Air Forces in particular, and the general topic of Nordic airpower. Our recommendations included for Norway to also adopt a greater reliance on protection by dispersal and unpredictability – not unlike the USAF’s Agile Combat Employment – as well as for all three countries to put a greater emphasis on regional cross border basing and a common Nordic air C2.
